Towards the end of April last, I was consulted by letter on the case of Mr. C., a tea planter, resident close to the Darjeeling Terai, at an elevation of about 1,600 feet. His occupation compelled him to pass all but his sleeping hours in the Terai itself; yet for three years he had enjoyed excellent health. He is about 25 years of age, and never before had any serious illness. He complained of diarrhoea, some tenesmus, loss of appetite, and unwillingness to exert himself. I recommended by letter
